The Police Watch Magazine; the quest for a democratic Uganda police force
The increased monitoring of police compliance to legal obligations, human rights and police professional standards is intended to enhance accountability and as a result of this, a newsletter to be called “The Police Watch” will, be compiled, documented and published for the wider public to share the information. The magazine is bi-annual and shared with the various stakeholders but more specifically, the nationwide coalition member organizations on police reform, the general civil society community, government actors, education institutions and the police as well. It facilitates further dialogue/debates on police reform between different stakeholders from an informed platform. The “Police Watch” adopts themes for a particular period of reporting upon which contributors of articles including the police force shall base their writings.
A particular section is dedicated to an overview of the emerging issues concerning the police in the reporting period under review and possible interventions by all the stake holders. Indeed, this newsletter is building on the success of the earlier newsletters (two editions) that have been published under the previous programme. This time however, with further insights, the newsletter has been given a name beyond the previous “police accountability newsletter” and entails more in-depth analyses of the thematic issues under investigation.
The “Police Watch” is aimed at being a hub of information containing all necessary information available about police reform in Uganda. A particular section is dedicated to listing the various literatures available under the project which can be accessed by the public at the HURINET-U resource centre. At least 1200 copies of each edition are published and distributed with the different stakeholders while an electronic version is uploaded on the project website for download purposes to the website visitors as well as sending it electronically to different partner organizations both abroad and within the country.
The editorial team accepts articles to feature in the magazine all year round. Should you be interested in sending such articles, kindly email it to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or call 0712-989375 for further details.
