The increased monitoring of police compliance to legal obligations, human rights and police professional standards is intended to enhance accountability and as a result of this, is a newsletter called "The Police Watch Magazine"

Others-HURINET-U Member Organizations, Networks and Institutions

Other partners crucial to the success of the project include;

  • HURINET-U member organizations, which currently stand at 37 organizations, some of which are networks as well on particular thematic areas. These member organizations are divided up in Thematic Clusters (T.Cs) such as child rights; civil and political rights among others.
  • Local strategic partner network organizations such as Uganda Women’s’ Network (UWONET), Anti-Corruption Coalition, Development Network for Indigenous Voluntary Organizations (DENIVA) and the National NGO forum.
  • The wider civil society fraternity including the church; in particular the Uganda Joint Christian Council (UJCC) which entails the denominations of Protestants, catholic and the Orthodox Church in Uganda and Inter-Religious Council (IRC) among others. HURINET-U has working relations with UJCC and IRC.
  • Institutes based at the institutions of higher learning including universities such as Human Rights and Peace Centre-HURIPEC which is part of the faculty of law, Makerere University, the institute of peace and conflict studies based at Gulu University.  In the past, HURINET-U has engaged individual academics to undertake various studies-research on police related matters.  Such academic partners form part of the wider network within the civil society that seeks to contribute to police reform and accountability in Uganda.
  • The other partners are the centers for research and other related aspects with interest and thematic activities related to security and policing.  HURINET-U is also establishing relations with student bodies and their leaders in the various universities especially on the notions regarding human right such as police reform and how the students can be party to this campaign.
  • Libraries (Repositories) and Resource Centers of various institutions and organizations such as universities are as part of the dissemination avenues of the various publications to be released under the project and will also ensure that literature gathered as output from the various activities is available to inform public debate on police and governance in Uganda.
