1. Uganda Police, ‘Crime Report, 2008’

According to the Police Annual Crimes Report, ‘in 2008, the country registered a decrease in actual crimes reported, by 23%, over the previous year.  While the volume of crime stood at 119,072 cases, the number of reports and complaints received at Police stations and posts across the country was in excess of 287,000. Out of these, reports and complaints, approximately 168,000 were found to be non-criminal in nature and referred to civil and other remedy.  In essence, this means that the public is increasingly making the Police their first formal stop in the resolution of conflicts, and other situations that affect their lives…’  For more, click here and Down Load the Uganda Police, ‘Crime Report, 2008’.

III. The Police Accountability and Reform Newsletter

The Project operates an electronic newsletter which points out emerging issues concerning the project and Uganda Police Force.  The newsletter is produced every 2 months depending on the situation. Click here and Download the past Newsletter, Volume 1, 2010.


IV. Proceedings of the Report of the National Training Workshop for Police - Civilian Oversight and Accountability

On the16th -18th June 2008, HURINET-U held a three day (3) seminar intended to bring together CSOs and other government institutions and equip them with the requisite knowledge to enable them contribute to an accountable and reformed police service that Uganda deserves. These CSOs and participating governmental institutions continue to play the oversight role over the Police. The overall goal of the CSOs’ contribution in the police oversight and accountability is to have an accountable and democratic police, which is in close cooperation with the public and works towards a safe and secured society.  A detailed report of the workshop can be downloaded here National Training Workshop for Police - Civilian Oversight and Accountability.
